Chef John M

Meet John, the chef who's been proving people wrong — deliciously — for over 15 years.

"You think I can't… watch me."

Chef John's story starts early. Like, really early. He was experimenting in the kitchen at 8 years old, working in a seafood restaurant by 13, and serving as a chef in the military by 17. More than 15 years later, he's still doing exactly what he set out to do: creating food that brings people together and leaves a lasting impression.

For John, the whole point is that first bite. The moment when something he poured his heart into lands on a plate, a guest takes a taste, and everything clicks. "That reaction reminded me why I do what I do," he says — and after a career that's taken him across the globe and into some pretty extraordinary kitchens, that feeling hasn't gotten old.

His cooking is bold, comforting, and deeply personal — Caribbean cuisine holds a special place in his heart, and his love for Chinese food runs just as deep.

Three overseas military tours. A gold challenge coin from a four-star general. A cooking competition win against five other chefs. And yes — he's cooked for President Barack Obama. Not a bad résumé for someone who just wanted to make people happy at the dinner table.

Outside the kitchen, John is all about family — especially his daughter. You'll find him gaming, bowling, or skating, and he has one very specific dream: getting a big dog. Like, a really big dog. His favorite place he's ever traveled? Rhodes — and he loved it even more the second time around.
